Snowboarding, like most sports, is about pushing yourself and extending
your own comfort zone. As important as it is to push yourself, don’t go
so hard that you get hurt. Ride for you, not the other kids in the
park, and not for the gapers watching you from the lift. It’s a lot
cooler to have fun and ride the way that makes you happy than it is to
try and show off.
No one has fun with a kid who has to chill on a donut.

Bode Merrill and the boys are back at it. This time, they leave the urban setting alone and return to the mountain. Although they may have come back to the mountain, the riding is anything but conservative. Headplants, switch-ups like I've never seen before, and even a TAILBLOCK FRONTFLIP DROP IN! What the fuh

Screeching and sputtering like broken nails on a crusty chalkboard,
the metal edge of my snowboard grinds sketchily across the ice. Flailing
my arms and regaining my balance, I have just enough time to pop a
sizeable ollie. Luckily, the ollie was high enough to clear the patch of
grass and lump of rocks left uncovered of snow.

She’s all I can think about. There is nothing distracting enough to
keep me from thinking of her. Sleep doesn’t even act as a safe haven
from these slaloming thoughts. They always seem to carve deep turns
through the snow-covered forests that are my dreams.
Just weeks ago we were planning our upcoming trips together. All the fun we were going to have.
Now, I can barely even look at her.
The air in the room tells me the feeling is mutual. Since my most recent skateboarding injury, I’ve been unable to shred.
My sweetheart, Cecelia, is upset that I can’t ride her.

Carinthia, Mount Snow's all-park peak, is open and shreddy to bro.
The homies up there in Vermont put out a quick edit showcasing the early season set up, featuring riders such as Ian Keay and Shaun Murphy. Did y'all know that Murphy, a Mount Snow parkrat, was invited with the Bataleon crew to shoot at Superpark 16 last year? Homie is definitely on the come up. Maybe we could have another East Coaster go pro like Forrest Bailey from Stratton Mountain in VT and Mike Ravelson from Loon Mountain in NH.
You never know!

Not that I ever a need a reminder of how much I love snowboarding, but a video like this highlights what the sport is all about: Pushing yourself, getting hurt and landing new tricks. Working, playing, traveling and tightening the bonds of brotherhood through a shared passion.
In the RK1 crew's 2012 season edit, riders such as Stale Sandbech and Len Jorgensen exemplify the specs above perfectly. These guys travel the world, entertaining themselves and others everywhere they go. Along with the glowing, heart warming vibes I get while watching this video were the awe-inspiring, jaw dropping tricks thrown down in it. Never have I ever seen so many fucking cork variations. I didn't even know that there were that many triple cork variations invented.
Literally blown away. Watch this shit.

There is a reason Bode Merrill has such a big name in the snowboarding world, but if one needed more clarification on the magnitude of his greatness they just need watch this video part.
In Monster Energy's Merrill Time: Street, Bode and his crew exhibit a level of skill and insanity unfathomable to most. I keep on thinking that the envelope cannot possibly be pushed any further, that the limits of what is humanly possible on a snowboard are soon to be reached - and then I see this.
Do yourself a favor and take seven minutes out of your day to watch this edit. You will not be disappointed.

DTF is up online! And it is the tits!
The Helgason brothers are back at it again, this time getting funky and gnarly with an even bigger crew that last time. Following their "Sexual Snowboarding" full length film, the Helgasons just dropped "DTF: Down to Film" on the interwebz.
The Helgasons and their film crew are always a fun bunch to watch. They bring their sense of humor and stylish creativity into every rail, jump or butter they hit. Eiki really demonstrates his skate style through his snowboarding, and Halldor really exhibits his "I don't give a shit" attitude through his. If you haven't watched either of these two films, you best get on it. It will inspire you to do some pretty crazy stuff this season.

Daniel Ek's full part destroys. Ek takes it so hard to the backcountry. As far as sponsorship goes, Ek's had a hard time. He lost his sponsorship deals when both Special Blend and Forum closed up shop last year. But that didn't stop him from getting out there and throwing down one of the most entertaining video parts of the month. Do yourself a favor and check this out:

AND SO IT BEGINS.
Watch the guys from GBP go and destroy the early season rail set up over at Killington. Killington was the first to open up this year, hats off to 'em. My knee is fucked right now, so I couldn't be more jealous watching this. I've gotta get me mine!
I was really impressed with the quality of these set ups and how icy it didn't sound. Looks can be deceiving though...
Watch the edit these goons put out this week. It's nice.

Torstein Horgmo is the tits. He puts so much fun into the sport of snowboarding. He puts out online parts that are always full of him joking around with homies, throwing funny tricks and teasing himself and other riders. His part from DC's IT though, is a different story. This part blew my boots off when I first saw it. Torstein kills it on big jumps, in the backcountry, all throughout the park and in the streets. He really does it all.
Every time I watch this part, I get so excited about life. This part embodies what I live for.
Watch the part here!
Arapahoe Basin blasted off the 2013-14 snowboard season as it opened its lifts at 8:30 a.m. last Sunday. Bear Mountain in San Bernandido, Cal. got a bit of snow too, enough to allow for some rail set-ups even.
With these mountains starting up their season, you know what that means for us over here on the East Coast: pretty much nothing.
Check out the latest issue of 'Boarder Patrol' on the New Paltz Oracle.
You can read it righttttttttt------->HERE!
This should've been thrown up a little bit earlier, but I didn't think of writing the column 'til I was put on the spot to this week. This article is all about how you can get a snowboard fix when there isn't any snow around. Here's a blurb:
1) Astroturf.
Scrappy, but it does the trick for a fun couple of hours in your backyard and get you that quick fix you’re jonesin’ for. Using plywood, create a down ramp and run up to whatever feature it is you’re hitting. It’s important to put the Astroturf on top of plywood because it will wrinkle if placed directly onto the ground. Also, put a tarp or two underneath the plywood if you care at all about your lawn. On top of the turf, apply powdered detergent and water to make your board slide. Make sure your run-up and jump are well aligned with the rail, because you’re not going to want to try making any sharp turns on that thing.
2) Dry Slopes.
I haven’t heard of many in the U.S., aside from indoor foam pit jump at the Woodward at Copper snowboard camp. Dry slope technologies, developed by companies like Skitrax, make artificial snow that remains stable year round. Skitrax has built full runs, moguls and terrain parks in over 12 countries throughout Europe that can be shredded during every season of the year. I can’t imagine the falls being very forgiving sans snow, but I guess it can’t be much worse than our hard-packed or icy East Coast landings.

Matthew Bordeaux is one grizzly ass mothafucka. Beardz for days. Despite his backcountry-killer look, Bordeaux takes it hard to the streets in this Bald E-Gal edit on Transworld.
Bordeaux is a fun rider to watch. He puts himself in some pretty gnarly situations and just goes for it. With balls of steel and a face of fur, homie destroys rails and stair sets like it's nothing.

From Minnesota to Japan, Ian Sams absolutely killed it everywhere he went last season. His 2012-13 full part just dropped on Transworld. This shit is heavy. Sams and his film crew got really creative with some of their setups, and the massive effort they put into the edit really shows. Hats (and goggles) off to these boys.

If you're looking to buy some new gear and don't know where to start your research, I'd suggest Transworld's Good Wood Snowboard test as a good place to begin. The guys over at Transworld know what they're talking about, and all their reviews turn out to be pretty legit.

Does anyone else ever wonder what happened to Hampus Mosesson? This dude was always my brother and my favorite rider when we were youngins.

I went searching for some old videos this week, and successfully located my favorite video of all time: Robotfood's, Afterlame.
This video, to me, is what snowboarding is all about. It's what made me decide I could never live without it.
A strong crew, exciting adventures and fun riding throughout. The parts aren't full of modern day bangers, but the level of steez is unreal. These guys have made serious contributions to our sport, and should be commended for doing so. Hats off to Robotfood, now and always.
Featuring my childhood idols, Bobby Meeks, Hampus Mossesson, Jakob Wilhemson, Dave Benedek and more.

Here are some stunning photo's from the shooting of Jake Blauvelt's: Naturally.
Blauvelt takes it hard to the backcountry. The treeride shot is absolutely ridiculous. He and guys like Xavier De La Reux and Eric Jackson are pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the backcountry, and will continue to do so in years to come. If you haven't seen any of the pictures or footage from this video, get on it, because as of now you're missing out.

Every time I watch one of these videos I fall in love about a hundred times. Or as many times as there are tricks. These girls kill me.
It's great to see women throwing down so hard nowadays. No longer are people just saying, "that was pretty sick, for a girl." instead it's just, "that was pretty sick." And that's really the way it should be.

You gotta love watching experienced riders take it to the backcountry. They make it look so easy. Infamously known for their ability to acclimate, I felt I needed to play
